March 14, 2016   Dear Parents/Guardians: The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment is a mandated computer-based assessment of Mathematics and English Language skills that measure whether students are meeting the common core standards implemented by the state of New Jersey.   Please review the following information with regard to PARCC testing: PARCC tests will be administered to students in grades 7-11 from April 18th through April 25th. Demonstrating proficiency on the PARCC exam for students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will fulfill the student’s state requirement for graduation.  PARCC tests will be administered in the morning to all students.  English Language test will be administered in three units, each ranging from 90-110 minutes in length. Math tests will be administered in three units, each 80 minutes in length. Based on information we have received from the state at this time, the spring 2016 PARCC testing results will be available by the summer of 2016.   We acknowledge that PARCC is an assessment of proficiency in the common core standards and the district’s curricular programs.  It is important for you to know that our teachers remain committed to incorporating best instructional practices which support both the technology and content assessed on the PARCC assessments. As a parent/guardian the best way to keep PARCC testing in perspective is to remember these scores are just one assessment component of your child’s academic performance, and one small piece of the overall holistic view of your child’s achievement.    Please feel free to contact me with any further questions regarding PARCC testing.   Sincerely,   Nicholas Capuano Principal

Dear Parents and Students:   Due to a scheduling conflict the 9th grade orientation will be moved from Thursday, April 7, 2016, to Thursday, April 21, 2016.  We will hold a 9th grade High School Orientation for all present 8th graders and their parents.  This important meeting will take place in the Media Center at 7:00 PM.  At that time, we will emphasize the importance of the four years of high school beginning with the very first day.  An overview of the curriculum will be presented and the importance of a four year plan will be emphasized.   Teachers, guidance counselors and administrators will fully explain what high school is all about and stress the need for students to be involved in every aspect of their program during the next four years.   After the presentation, we will be available to answer your questions and address your concerns.   We urge you to mark your calendars and make every effort to attend this very important informational meeting.  Entering high school is a major step for every child.  These four years of high school will have a major impact on the future of all our students.   I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, April 21st at 7:00 PM.   Sincerely,     Nicholas Capuano Principal
