May 25, 2016   Dear Parents/Guardians,   The purpose of this notice is to reinforce the Student Drop-Off Procedure.   With safety as a primary objective in all school matters, we ask you to please review the following:   The traffic flow will enter the courtyard behind MPHS, proceeding along the side of the softball field on your right and enter the horseshoe Drop-Off Zone by the cafeterias on your left.  Please pull your car all the way up in the Drop-Off Zone.   Student Drop-Off/Loading/Unloading will only occur along the striped lines in front of both cafeterias.  PLEASE DO NOT park in the striped lines.   After dropping your child off, proceed out of the Drop-Off Zone and make a right out of the parking lot.   Please do not attempt to make a three-point turn in the Drop-Off Zone or parking lot in the front or back of the school.  All traffic must proceed around the horseshoe and back out.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making MPHS a safe school!  Please contact me with your questions and concerns.   Sincerely,            Nicholas Capuano          Principal

April 7, 2016       Dear Parents/Guardians:   Midland Park High School participated in a law enforcement activity today involving local and county officials and resources.  These resources included the use of canine officers.  This activity was a planned initiative of our school district and local law enforcement personnel.  This cooperative and proactive initiative is aimed at maintaining a safe and secure school environment for all members of our school community.   The activity that took place on Thursday, April 7, 2016 is part of a continuing and evolving plan, which includes educational activities, prevention activities and enforcement activities.  The use of local and county police resources, including canine patrol, may be repeated at various times for the remainder of the school year and in the future.  Today’s activities were cooperatively planned and implemented, so too will all future educational, preventative, and enforcement efforts.  It is the intention of all facets of our school community – students, teachers, parents, law enforcement, and school district personnel – to maintain a safe, secure, and substance-free school environment.  Our students, faculty, staff and community deserve no less.   Our efforts in this area will continue as we strive to maintain an appropriate school environment.  Should you have any questions or wish to provide pertinent information, please feel free to contact us.  We hope that we will have your support in this important and timely activity.  It is our goal in continuing these initiatives and to maintain a safe and substance-free school environment.   Sincerely,       Nicholas Capuano Principal

March 14, 2016   Dear Parents/Guardians: The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment is a mandated computer-based assessment of Mathematics and English Language skills that measure whether students are meeting the common core standards implemented by the state of New Jersey.   Please review the following information with regard to PARCC testing: PARCC tests will be administered to students in grades 7-11 from April 18th through April 25th. Demonstrating proficiency on the PARCC exam for students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will fulfill the student’s state requirement for graduation.  PARCC tests will be administered in the morning to all students.  English Language test will be administered in three units, each ranging from 90-110 minutes in length. Math tests will be administered in three units, each 80 minutes in length. Based on information we have received from the state at this time, the spring 2016 PARCC testing results will be available by the summer of 2016.   We acknowledge that PARCC is an assessment of proficiency in the common core standards and the district’s curricular programs.  It is important for you to know that our teachers remain committed to incorporating best instructional practices which support both the technology and content assessed on the PARCC assessments. As a parent/guardian the best way to keep PARCC testing in perspective is to remember these scores are just one assessment component of your child’s academic performance, and one small piece of the overall holistic view of your child’s achievement.    Please feel free to contact me with any further questions regarding PARCC testing.   Sincerely,   Nicholas Capuano Principal
