Exploratory Food & Nutrition Middle School

Middle School Exploratory Food & Nutrition is taught in two units throughout one marking period (10 weeks). This curriculum is a hands-on comprehensive understanding of the skills and procedures in the kitchen. Students will develop such practices in safety & sanitation, establishing healthy habits, and proper use of equipment will help to prevent accidents in the kitchen.  Measuring, cooking terms, and use of equipment will expand throughout the course.  Recipes will be introduced and cooking techniques will be presented & practiced.  The cooperative kitchen lab setting will teach time management skills and tasks when preparing food and career skills such as learning to work with others in a group setting.  Throughout the cooking experience, healthy eating, moderation, and nutrition will be expanded.  In addition, 21st Century skills will be developed. Food related careers and an introduction of various occupations will be studied.
