Midland Park athletes continue to make headlines across North Jersey with several Panthers earning recognition for their outstanding performances this spring season.
Midland Park freshman Hunter Marcus is currently in the running for NJ.com’s Top Freshman Baseball Player in New Jersey.
Hunter has made an immediate impact for the Panthers this season both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, he is batting .313 with 21 hits, 16 runs scored, 19 RBIs, 6 doubles, and 4 stolen bases. On the mound, he has been equally impressive, throwing 33.2 innings with 33 strikeouts and a 2.91 ERA while helping Midland Park compete in big games throughout the season.
Voting is open until Thursday, May 21 at noon.
Another Panther earning recognition is senior Braiden Russell, who was nominated for HSS North Jersey Baseball Player of the Week.
Russell helped lead Midland Park to a 3 and 0 week that all but secured a winning season for the Panthers. On the mound, he threw six innings against Wood Ridge, allowing just three hits with no earned runs, no walks, and seven strikeouts in a 4 to 1 victory. He also contributed offensively with two hits, two runs scored, and five RBIs during the week.
Voting closes Thursday, May 21 at 5:00 PM.
Congratulations also go out to Midland Park senior Samantha Weston for being named NorthJersey.com Softball Player of the Week.
Weston helped lead the Panthers through another strong week, driving in both runs in a win over Butler and adding a triple and two RBIs in a win over Mahwah. The senior captain continues to be one of the leaders of an outstanding Midland Park softball team and is currently batting over .400 on the season.
Also earning recognition was freshman pitcher Lexi Reyes, who was named among the North Jersey Softball Players of the Week.
Reyes continued her dominant freshman season by throwing a complete game extra inning shutout against Waldwick with 13 strikeouts while allowing only one hit, helping Midland Park advance to the Bergen County quarterfinals for the first time since 2013. She followed that performance by holding No. 14 Ramsey scoreless through five innings and added five strikeouts without issuing a walk.
Another great week for Panther athletics.
